Contrary to popular belief, bralettes are not just for 15 year-old teenagers going to Coachella. They are absolutely the most comfortable piece of clothing you can wear this summer, (aside from being naked of course) especially during those long flights en route to your dream beach vacation- Hawaii anyone? Maybe the Amalfi Coast? Bali? And not just in this heat, you can wear them all year round, whether you’re out in the heat or want some extra layer during those cold winter days.
The last thing you need in this hot heat is your underwire stabbing your boob on the plane (happened to me a couple of times! Hated it!) or on you 8-hour roadtrip. Trust me, from someone who has battled the long TSA lines a few weeks back, I would not devote any spare time changing my bra on those awful bathroom lines. The solution? The trendy bralette!
But how do you pick your perfect match? For me, coverage is important, so I actually prefer lined ones with cups/or pads. Here are some tips to rock the bralette without having a wardrobe malfunction on your next day out.
It’s about the fit. Trying different sizes is always a good idea as brands may have different sizing options. Buying online may be tricky, so reading reviews is the next best thing. You want it snug, but still comfortable. Unlike a regular bra though, I don’t think you need a bra-fitting in the store to get a bralette, just get whichever fits best, and not tugging on your skin.
Black looks good on everyone. And it does match well when layering underneath clothes. So when in doubt, just go for a black one and it will match most of your wardrobe- low cut, halter tops and dresses or shirts. A nude or skintone one comes second, as you can layer it underneath sheer or white tops.
Have fun with styles. There are a ton of backless, or partially backless tops and dresses this summer and it’s the best time to have fun with razorbacks, and other trendy styles that show off your gorgeous back! Tons of colors to play with as well.
Check out the band underneath. For plus size and women with large breasts, this is a must. I have been disappointed in the past, falling for cute designs and tons of reviews, only to find out later that the bralette would ride up and would not stay below my boobs! Ugghh! The lesson? Check out the band underneath, if it’s sturdy, or if there is even one, it can be a soft elastic or anything that would keep your girls secured and no nipple slippage peeking through your top.
Lined or unlined. This is obviously whatever you prefer, but beware some do not have a lining to cover the nipples. Look closely in the product description when buying online. So unless that’s the look you want, you might need to get some nipple tape as well to avoid that braless effect.
Below are some more bralette ideas for your next road trip/plane ride or for just hanging out at home. Let me know on the comments which ones you have or which styles you prefer! Hope you enjoy the last leg of the summer!
