The holidays are mainly about the shiny new things, shopping for more goods (we probably already have) and basically accumulating stuff. We tend to forget the real reason for the season which is giving. And the second thing is- there are already amazing, classic pieces on your closet waiting to be dusted off, (they are crying and begging to be used that’s for sure!)
I got this faux fur about 2 years ago on sale and it just keeps on giving. It is so beautiful and warm, not to mention chic. I always get compliments when I wear this. It is definitely one of my fave closet staples! 🙂
I figured this is such as a classic piece and one of my favorites that I better take her out for a walk or else she might just cry and weep in my closet! 😉 This faux fur vest is Ralph Lauren, the fur is completely detachable. I linked several similar ones below.
The only new thing I have on this outfit is this Uniqlo turtleneck sweater, I got this on sale before Black Friday, I thought this color is just gorgeous! Can you believe it’s under $20? Got my gloves on a trip from Big Bear Lake, couldn’t find the store name! Ugghh! I hate when that happens.
And of course my bottoms are ever favorite, from Topshop, find the exact pair here.
Find similar booties here and here.
Get my sunglasses here. My red lip here.
Below are my tips on how you can use your old outfits and turn them into new ones for the holiday season or anytime of the year! 🙂
- Invest in classic pieces
Timeless pieces that you will want to wear over and over should be all over you collection. If you keep on buying trendy clothes just because a celebrity was caught wearing it, you can almost guarantee its short lifespan. Trust me, you’ll get tired of it after she stops wearing it. Think white shirt, a good pair of jeans, a black blazer, your go-to pumps. And they don’t have to be expensive either. Bottomline: when buying new clothing, ask yourself how long you think you can this. Is this just this season? ‘Til next year maybe? Or 5? You get the picture.
2. Don’t be afraid to mix and match
Affordable pieces (like that Forever 21 shirt) can always go with your more pricey items. It’s all about how you dress it up. Cute accessories always make an outfit. Same goes for seasonal gear. Just be creative and use your imagination! 🙂 Need inspiration? Just check out Instagram or Pinterest for looks you may want to try. Or better yet, post a pic of yourself and ask people if your choice suits you! 😉
3. If you already own it, think twice on buying it
Sure that gray sweater is cute, but you already own like 8 of them. (ehem..me!) And you live in a warmer city, you hardly use all of them. Sound familiar? Save closet space (and money, and the environment) by purchasing essential items, okay maybe just stuff you don’t already own. That way the less you have, you rotate your clothes faster. And yeah I know, more space for future purchases.
4. Reassess your closets regularly
Some items, (this goes for designer bags too) need to be aired out/ used so they don’t accumulate mold/mildew and be further damaged. So don’t waste that hard-earned money by letting these staples go bad. After all, there must be a reason you fell in love with them in the first place. Go ahead and wear that special dress to church or on a date. Stop saving it for a special occasion that may never come soon.
So as you see ladies, sometimes the best looks don’t have to be all new and shiny! You probably don’t have to spend a dime because they are already in your closet! 🙂 Don’t forget to tag me on what you are re-wearing this season.
