Summer has officially begun! Woot woot! I love this time of the year, where I can wear my cute dresses, shorts and everything in between especially if they come in a vibrant colors! I love my neutrals, but summer is definitely the time to wear all things that pop! 🙂 While I’m still on a high on last week’s post of the midi skirt, I thought I’d do a cumulative write-up on her very popular sister, the mini skirt.
While I do not really wear super short minis anymore (I did when I was in my twenties! 😉 I am loving ones that just fall maybe 3 inches or so above the knee, and those that are in super fun colors, like this one I have on this post. I do realize that not everyone is comfortable wearing this piece of clothing, but I assure you, there are sooo many varieties in all shapes and sizes (and colors) that would flatter most body types.
Hat: Free People find similar ones here and here. Sunglasses: Quay Australia Jacket: Missguided get similar pieces here and here. Sweater: Topshop find another here. Mini skirt: Soprano. Dolce Vita booties, similar here and here.
This skirt is a size small, it’s a nice faux suede material, has a zipper on the side and the material is a bit stretchy. And fyi, I am not stick skinny, I got a bit of booty on me (I usually wear a size 3 in jeans) 😉 and this was so comfy and the ruffles give a nice feminine touch! I linked some other cute colored skirts on the widget below for your reference.
What I found out recently in purchasing mini skirts, is that not all would look flattering on the hip area especially for curvier girls. I saw this cute skirt on sale a few days ago, tried it on, only to be disappointed that it doesn’t look the same as the model in the picture (like duh! they’re models after all, most have super narrow waists!). So I tell ya’ ladies, looks can be deceiving (if you don’t already know) so for the most part, I like stretchy fabrics on my minis so it can have a bit of a give on my booty area 😉 and details like ruffles or vertical stripes are a plus too.
I love pairing neutrals with a bright pop of color, such as this skirt, or it can be shorts or pants, or sometimes I do the opposite, colorful top, neutral bottom. It just depends on how I feel at the moment. Right now, I’m obsessed with this terracotta/rust/brick color! Totally up my alley! 😉
Wearing a jacket here as it still is a bit cool here in Huntington Beach especially during mornings, and it complements wearing a short skirt as I like not over-exposing too much skin all at once! I wore a light sweater with some eyelet detail, I couldn’t find this anymore online, similar ones linked on second pic and the widget below.
I think booties for summer can still be worn during in-between weather (60’s in the mornings here in HB is the norm except during warmer months) provided that they are lightweight, preferably in neutral shades so it can be worn with most colors. I loove this tan/suede color because I can wear it with anything, and yes even during the summer!
What do you pair with your mini skirts? Sound off on the comments below! 🙂

This was shot in beautiful Huntington Beach, a place I’ve been calling home for about 2 years now. I’m lucky to live in such a beautiful city! Have you guys been to HB? Come visit us, you will absolutely love it. 😉 We shot this midmorning where the sun was at it’s best and it came out so stunning, with hardly any editing to do. Watch out for more of HB in my upcoming posts! 🙂
