While summer is usually about wearing the brightest colors, black is still an undeniably classic color that anyone can pull off. It flatters all body types, can be dressed up or down and is very versatile be it on the beach or your next road trip. I used to wear black clothing all the time when I was a bit younger, it was the 90’s and it was all about the little black dress, black tops, heck even goth (and grunge) was all the rage then.
Nowadays with the advent of social media I feel like black kinda took a backseat. Or maybe just to a teeny degree. All of a sudden splashes of colors were everywhere. There is even a rose gold (and gold, red and silver etc) Iphone. Bright colors just photograph so much beautifully than a very two-dimensional (in my opinion) black.
But nonetheless black is here to stay- and slay I should say. Lol. I would wear black when I feel bloated during that time of the month, or when I ate too much pasta or at a night out in Vegas. Will I wear black in this heat though? Of course! Today, I’m sharing my tips on how I wear black this summer.

I’ve been wearing this black black romper (as seen above and below pics) for a few weeks now and I absolutely love it. It also comes in other colors like white, pink and mint but when I first saw it I thought the black one would be so flattering and would be a great coverup for the beach. Linking some more cute ones below 😉
Sheer Panels. While sheer panels on any type of clothing can be a bit scary, I assure you that they will help you stay cool and depending on the design, sheer panels add a sexy touch to this already sexy color. The key is wearing a nude-colored underwear or if you want to show off, maybe a black lace underwear that would peek through would also a great. Try this one here. Subtle sexy is key so don’t overdo it.
Make it Short and Sweet. Jumpsuits are great, but to me rompers are way better. I would save my jumpsuits for more dressy occasions and wear shorter rompers on more casual activities. For shorter ladies like myself, I would usually wear nude sandals to lengthen my legs. Showing off a bit of leg didn’t hurt anyone 😉 And they can get a tan in the sun (don’t forget the sunscreen though!) Hey I’m airing them out Lol. Plus I think it’s such a fun and easy-breezy outfit and you can relax on your getaway and not think of much else.
Consider Cuts and Fabrics. I love details on any outfit, and when wearing black sometimes some designs don’t particularly stand out. Fabrics with Lace, Chiffon or Jersey materials are going to make you cool and classy and will for sure break the ‘black is boring’ mode. See some of my picks below 😉 Of course off-the shoulder, plunging necklines, halter, floral prints, and other romper sets will always be trendy and in style. I like those types of black rompers for more of an afternoon or evening event.
Left to Right: Topshop jersey romper, Leith strapless romper, Socialite plunging lace romper
Left- Right: Halter romper, Off the shoulder ruffle romper
Left to Right: Show Me Your Mumu romper, RVCA sleeveless romper, Stone Row Chiffon romper
And there you have it, a few of my tips in wearing black this summer. How about you? Do you like wearing black this season? Or are you more of the every color of the spectrum kinda gal? Let me know on the comments below 😉
