“It was an itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka dot bikini”- is probably one of the most played songs of all time and probably for as long as summer existed. Polka dots have always been a classic summer staple, it’s one of those things that will always be fashionable, like when you’re in doubt of what will be a hit to wear to a party, try anything with polka dots. It always works. 🙂
When I think of polka dots, I think Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Dita Von Teese. Like classic vintage glam. Beautiful colors, red lips, the hot sun on the beach. Effortless style at its finest. That why I’m dedicating this post on this classic summer style: the polka dots.

When it comes to mixing and matching polka dots with any other colors, I try to stay within the same color scheme or at least close enough colors, that way they can complement each other! Like in this combo, I am wearing an orange and white polka dot dress so I thought yellow would be great complimenting color to match it!
Although, contrast colors go well too, like if you have a white top with black polka dots on it, it would be beautiful if you wore an all black skirt to go with it. I would pair that with a bold red lip, and that my friend is such classic, unbeatable style!
Now print with polka dots is another story. The look may be too busy to put together, but, it really depends on how you feel and your confidence to pull it off! Make a statement! Fashion is fun! 🙂
I’m wearing a size smaller on this dress, I got a XXS instead of my usual XS. I got this online and saw that the straps have a plunging neckline and a smocked waist, so I figured that they are going to be a bit loose, and I was right, this one fits me really well, so for my petite or smaller chested ladies, I advice on a size smaller on these type of dresses where your top half, is much exposed and the shoulder straps might be loose. The waist is stretchy so it moves with ya! 😉
I would totally wear this midi dress on a picnic on the beach or park, this is also a fun date night out dress! A cute hat, a wicker/straw bag and comfy wedges will totally complete your look!
If you feel too overexposed wearing this type of dress you can always throw on a sweater over or even a layering one underneath for those cooler nights. Below I’m sharing some modern day twists on this classic design that you will surely love. From bikinis to head wraps to a laptop bag, polka dots are everywhere! Using any of these items will for sure give you a vintage glam look 😉
My favorite all time pair is the black and white polka dots as it just feels so feminine and it makes me feel like I’m channeling Marilyn Monroe straight from the 50’s. I feel like minimal accessories are needed if I’m sporting any polka dot attire like a dress or a top, it does exude so much chic already.
How about you do you wear polka dots? What kind do you have in your closet? How do you like to wear them? Sound off on the comments below 🙂
