Summer Wedding Guest Dress Ideas

 

While summer is in full swing here in the US (and I believe some other European cities are experiencing extremely high temps at this time of the year as well) it is inevitable that you’ve been invited to a wedding or two in the last couple of months. And why not? This is the perfect weather to travel and explore new places and enjoy a beach or garden wedding. A June bride is what most girls want to be but July is not too far behind. Popular venues are packed to the fullest during these months but what do you wear in this season of sweat and humidity? In this post I share with you some summer wedding wedding guest dress ideas to enjoy a no-frills and fun-filled summer wedding. 🙂

Choose Flattering and Cool Cuts. My faves, because of my petite frame, are shown here- halter and strapless. Both are equally stunning cuts that would flatter most body types. For strapless pieces I tend to size down as I do not have a lot of boobage 😉 to support the dress I find that if I stay true to size, the dress (or top) tends to fall down. So I end up doing the tug of war of pulling it up throughout the event- so annoying! So I size down and for most dresses it works, unless the sizing is smaller than usual. Then in that case I go for my size. Other pretty cuts/styles that work this season are off the shoulder, sleeveless, assymetric shoulder top/dress among others. Of course these styles will show off some skin and keep you cool during the ceremony.

Embrace Pretty Details. Lace, eyelet, ruffles, beads, etc are all amazing for the summer!  They add a feminine touch to an otherwise ordinary outfit. Just be careful not to go overboard and of course to avoid white, unless it’s the official color of the entourage. It is appropriate to not be flashy and always be careful to not upstage the bride. It is her day after all. Some beautiful ones are on the widget at the end of the post. 😉

 

 

Dress According to the Venue/Setting. This is to avoid overheating and of course you can choose your dress style as to where the wedding is going to be held. A beach wedding would have a more casual vibe and some couples even allow for flip-flops during their big day! So obviously you would not wear a uber-formal dress to the beach. And for theme weddings, like if it’s something specific like a hawaian tropical themed wedding or a Disney wedding or maybe a Star Wars inspired wedding, it is always best to ask the bride/groom on what you’re supposed to wear if not already specified on the invitation sent to you.

Go for the Classics. I find that classic pieces always work for whatever occasion, and I love neutral colors as they are always dainty and the best part is you can wear them again to another event in the future so you’re not wasting hard-earned money on a pair of heels that you’re going to wear once. This pink halter dress I have on would be great to wear to a beach or indoor wedding, and after the event I can for sure wear it again on a cruise or any other event. The trick is to think of the possibilities 😉

 

 

And as for your makeup, a glowing and sun-kissed look is gorgeous in this season, and it’s important not to overdue it  especially for younger ladies, you’re already beautiful, a face caked with makeup is not that flattering in bright photos. I accessorize minimally for occasions like these but of course feel free to be playful with your jewelry at any time! Colorful earrings and necklaces are beautiful conversation pieces.
