Planning your next road trip? Maybe a little weekend getaway? If you love the outdoors, you have to go to Kenarra Falls in Utah. A couple of weeks ago hubby and I went and were amazed at how beautiful this place is. Pictures don’t do this place justice! 😩Unlike its counterparts Zion National Park or Bryce Canyon Kenarra Falls doesn’t get as much foot traffic so it’s much quieter and less crowded. What it lacks in popularity it sure makes up for the experience.
I have to warn you guys that the hike is moderate to difficult to get to the falls area, it involves some serious scaling and climbing slippery manmade ladders like this one below:
Scared yet? Lol. If you have guts, and definitely a passion for hiking and don’t mind the cold water then you definitely should check this place out! First thing, you’ll need a permit to get in, it costs about $12, you can get it here.
They only allow 150 people per day and don’t take walk-ins so be prepared. It’s a long drive, don’t say I didn’t warn you. 😉
Before you get to the ladder part however, you have to endure a long hike about 2 miles of moderate dips, elevations and rocky paths. The rocks are beautiful orange-reddish hue same as most of Utah’s beautiful rocky mountain parks. 😊

I thought it would share some tips on surviving some difficult, mushy and water terrain hikes just like this one. So read on😊
1.Wear proper shoes and socks. Yes you heard that right- socks. Hiking, or walking in mushy and watery trails can be so uncomfortable especially if you haven’t done it before. Your good old socks may be too thin for the trails and Neoprene socks are the way to go. We didn’t have time to get some when we went and totally regretted it. Got you some options here and here.
2. Temperatures can be extreme. It was about almost a hundred degrees when we went, BUT the water is freezing cold. Which could be nice on a hot day, but as you are getting near the falls area, the temps really get lower so be prepared. Bring an extra shirt or a jacket, and of course check out weather conditions before you even go. 🤗
3. The way to the falls could be dangerous. The 1st and 2nd photos above are the end of the trek as we didn’t (or couldn’t) go any further as somebody took down the rope handles/guides. Could be the people from the park itself, but we weren’t going to risk our lives by any chance. Turn back if you feel like the way is getting too much for you. Remember, DO NOT try to beat nature. Because it will always win.
4. Be prepared. For everything- the elements, elevations, possible animals (we didn’t see any) and remember what I said above there is a fee and they only let 150 people a day so definitely plan ahead. We printed our passes and had no trouble. Here is the site again if you want to reserve your spot. 😊
