Red, white and blue! It’s almost time for America’s birthday once again! I for one can’t wait for the parties, barbecues, parades and fireworks! And do I love the fireworks! We have so much amazing celebrations here in Orange County particularly here in Huntington Beach, the parade is even broadcasted live on TV! All the fireworks and festivities definitely gets me in a festive mood so this year I’m thinking lots of red, red hues and even touches of red as I think it looks so vibrant, and it is one of my favorite colors of all time!
What I love about this color is mostly the richness of it, that it just pops instantly in a sea of black, white and grays, you will definitely stand out if you wear anything red. And in this season, girl you are gonna be smokin’ 😉
I decided to dedicate this post on festive dresses that can be worn not just for the 4th of July but throughout the summer as well. Yeah I love white and blue colors too but you gotta admit, red is such a showstopper, nothing says special occasion better than a red dress.
This dress Forever 21 also comes in white, I’m wearing a size Small. Similar one here and here. More styles on the widget below. Similar hats here and here.
These days dresses do not come cheap, so when I see one that fits and is amazingly gorgeous I freakin’ buy it. This one from Forever 21 is just so stunning, it’s such a steal! It’s under $30 and it’s just as good as any of my expensive dresses. This color is just so vampy, alive and fun that’s why its such a staple in my closet. I’ve been told it complements my skin tone really well. Maybe that’s why most asians love wearing red 😉
And don’t fret I believe anyone can pull off this hue. Light, medium or dark skinned, and even girls with red hair! It’s such a myth that red haired girls can’t wear red! You absolutely can, just find the right shade that’s made for you. As for it being worn this 4th of July, red is such a festive color that it is worn is every occasion, Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year’s, Birthdays, well why not in America’s birthday?
Fun fact: Did you know that women had to hand sew the first US flag? And that at that time there was very little information known about them. During the declaration of Independence, men left behind their businesses, homes and families and there were women who had to take over them and their responsibilities. These women were behind the signers, with them always being backstage as the quiet wives, daughters and obedient workers they are as they helped create this beautiful and free country that we now know as the United States of America. At that time most women are known as “the wife of,” or “daughter of” and not as an independent person with equal rights and privileges as a man. They raised children, run a household and made ends meet. Sound familiar?
But boy, we’ve come a long way since the 1700’s! I salute these women who are unsung heroes as they paved the way for us, generations later as we as women kept our pristine qualities and developed a more independent spirit in the modern world. Cue Destiny’s Child Independent Woman song right here. Lol. Hats off to the ladies behind the signers of the Declaration of Independence, they are truly a reason to celebrate the 4th of July and that is certainly an excuse to wear red.

Incidentally, I’m wearing a red dress today. It’s one of my favorites – a swingy little number with cold-shoulder cutouts and ruffled sleeves. Very timely and I’ve had it for years!
