Winter is almost here and the snow is upon us in most parts of the country. I love this season as everything snow touches feels truly magical. It has such ethereal quality that brings the Christmas season an almost surreal feel to it. It is one of nature’s true gifts that we should truly celebrate and embrace! I love sweater weather, snuggling under the covers and hot chocolate with marshmallows! Yum!
Hubby and I recently went to Mammoth Lakes, California and it was like the first time I saw the snow all over again! It is quite of a drive, but so much worth it! 😩Living in California, where its pretty much warm 90% of the time, going there was straight out of a dream! All the streets and rooftops were covered with snow, icicles formed on the buildings, there wasn’t a patch of land without snow covering it. Hallelujah! 🤗⛄️I didn’t believe it was possible to have snow in the West Coast. But it did, and I am so glad to have experienced it.

The only thing harsh in this environment is of course the extreme cold. Being in the snow is no joke and is definitely not for the faint of heart! So today I’m sharing some tips on how to layer clothes in the winter, these are my proven ways of layering that has kept me warm during this trip and previous snow experiences. So if you’re heading to the slopes or just any cooler weather areas, this post is for you!
Warmer Underwear. In extremely cold temperatures, you can choose to wear thermal underwear. I don’t live in the snow so don’t usually wear thermal stuff so I use my regular underwear although in addition to it, I actually wear a cami tank top in warmer fabric (like spandex, nylon or polyester) before I do my base layer. I like really like these ones. I find that this actually help me stay warm longer even while staying outside the freezing cold! 😉

Base Layer. I then put on my base layer which is usually a turtleneck top and some warmer type of leggings. My faves are here and here. Again, I don’t really go buy specific thermal stuff just because I wouldn’t be able to use it for the rest of the year. If you don’t have warmer type of leggings, any thicker ones (maybe compression types) will do. This will help you stay warm. Make sure they hug the body close (not loose) so less draft can come in. This is important especially if you are going to do some outdoor sports like skiing, snowboarding etc.
(Optional) Warmer sweater. Depending on your cold tolerance, and on the temperatures sometimes another layer is necessary. Hey anything that will keep you warm, do it. Or you will regret it later. I like a slightly thicker sweater from my base just make sure it’s a size larger, (so it’s not too tight, to avoid feeling too constricted). Your warmest sweater will do, I would avoid extremely baggy ones and ones that have holes/perforations. In this post I’m wearing a base layer underneath this mustard colored sweater.

Puffer jacket Columbia similar ones here and here.
Waterproof (Puffer) Jacket and Pants. Even if you’re just walking around the snow areas, frigid temperatures are extremely harsh you need an extra layer of warmth, also you need to stay dry. Any puffer jacket that has water repelling capabilities will do. Sometimes snow/light rain may fall and you definitely want to be protected at all times. Change wet clothing immediately to avoid having the possibility of frostbite. 😊

Yellow cardigan is a thrift shop find, similar ones here and here. Forever 21 Beanie get it here.
Accessories: Beanie, scarf, gloves and snow boots. Be sure to get the warmest ones you can find. It doesn’t need to be expensive, lots of brands have beanies, gloves and even boots that can protect you from freezing at a great price! Look at the fabric and check the label to see if these accessories will stand your next ski trip. I love Acrylic, Wool, Faux Fur as they tend to really keep the heat in! Some are flimsy ones and make sure to get ones that feel the warmest! 😉

These are just some of my tips, let me know how you keep yourself warm in the Winter season or just in colder months. Some of these items/layers you may not want or need depending on your cold tolerance as well 😉I personally grew up in the tropics and have not been on much frigid temps but I actually have come to love it! 😍There’s something about the first fall of the snow and how it just makes everything look amazingly beautiful. 😊Do you love the cold or are a sunny weather gal? I’m a native to Minnesota – so I’m no stranger to harsh winter weather and frigid temps. I think it was 12° F on my walk to work this morning.
My recommendations are good socks (I like wool) with lined and waterproof snow boots. Cold and wet feet are no bueno if you live and work where it snows a lot.
Also, silk is a wonderful fabric for layering with, especially against your skin. I like to wear silk slips under nice work dresses or silk camis under sweaters and turtlenecks!
Oh gosh girl! Thanks for those tips! 😊I love that you mentioned silk, I love silk on everything! 🤗Yes waterproof boots are a must! 😉
Gosh you look so cute and I adore your smile 🙂
